Earning a Return

Investing in race horses is always a highly speculative venture. It is a costly investment and often a horse owner will not recover all the money invested. However, there are opportunities to see a profit from purse monies, the possible sale of the horse as a racing prospect, broodmare or stallion, the sale of foals from a mare or the syndication of the stallion for breeding purposes.

There are also tax benefits/implications and these can be challenging.  While the IRS has become more favorable in its treatment of horse racing investments there are always questions.  Bona Venture Stables recommends you consult your tax attorney or accountant before making any decisions.  You also can find additional information from the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association at www.toba.org.
